The retention and creation of biodiverse wetlands, bioretention areas, grey water harvesting and the use of stormwater for passive irrigation helps to improve the quality of waterways.
CREATE AN OPEN SPACE FRAMEWORK
A series of open spaces, from the village centre to parks, playgrounds and playing fields, provides space for active and passive use, encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors and immerse themselves in the community.
AN ACTIVE 5KM TRANSPORT LOOP
Kilometres of interconnecting walking / cycle paths meander around the site, creating a green-friendly method of getting around while promoting a healthy, active way of life for local residents and visitors.
SUSTAINABILITY
The intelligent harvesting and re-use of rainwater helps create greener, more appealing streetscapes, while greywater connections and smart rainwater tanks reduce water usage. Stormwater is diverted from roofs and driveways and directed to verges for passive irrigation while street trees are passively irrigated via kerb openings. Wetlands and bioretention areas enhance vegetation and naturally filter run-off water.
Orchard Hills North sets new environmental standards, particularly in terms of green initiatives. The strategic use of trees and vegetation within the site helps keep homes and outdoor spaces cool, reduce energy use, improve air quality, provide habitat for local animal species and enhance storm water management, thereby improving quality of life for locals.
Winding throughout the site with a cycleway following alongside it, a creek has a soothing effect, providing a unique feature of the landscape.
Expanses of green open space provide abundant opportunities to get active or simply relax and unwind beneath the shade of a towering tree.
A central lake and wetlands area provides much-needed habitat for native flora and fauna, a natural filter for rainwater and a great spot for picnicking.
