Students Provide Inspiration for Public Art at Orchard Hills North

Orchard Hills is a place where the past is never far away – where groves once flourished, farms shaped daily life, and the rhythms of the land fostered connection. Even as the suburb evolves, its identity remains deeply rooted in fruit trees, soil, sky, and the everyday beauty of its people and creatures.

To honour this history and celebrate the community’s future, a new public artwork will soon be installed at the north-eastern corner of the Orchard Hills North multi-use greenspace. This welcoming sunlit location will serve as a meeting point for residents and visitors, linking pathways to local amenities such as the playgrounds, sports facilities, water play area, picnic lawns, woodlands, gardens, and the market and event space.

Students as Co-Creators

The inspiration for the artwork will come directly from the young artists and thinkers of Orchard Hills Primary School. Through a series of art-making workshops, students explored the theme of “Orchards | Ecology | Agriculture | Life Cycles.” After lively brainstorming and discussion in the classroom, they expressed their ideas through painting, capturing how they see the land, its history, and its possibilities.

Their contributions revealed a world rich with imagination:

  • Trees heavy with fruit
  • Bright, sun-filled landscapes
  • Visions of both past and future
  • Friendly creatures hidden among the leaves
  • Spaces alive with magic and wonder

A Lasting Legacy

These artworks will serve as the foundation for a professional public art piece. The final creation will not only reflect Orchard Hills’ agricultural past but also embody the creativity and optimism of its youngest community members – a symbol of growth, continuity, and connection for generations to come.

Sept 2025

Orchard Hills North was filled with excitement over the weekend, as Stage 1 purchasers came to see their lot for the very first time.

The neighbourhood event, held on the streets of Stage 1, gave new landowners the chance to walk across their land, meet their neighbours, and start building the community spirit that will shape Orchard Hills North.

Guests enjoyed a relaxed afternoon, share stories and got to know the people who will soon be part of their neighbourhood.

“This was more than just a visit—it truly felt like the beginning of the Orchard Hills North story,” said Mike Williams, General Manager Legacy Property. “Seeing our purchasers connect and celebrate together was an incredible moment for the future of this community.

“Legacy Property is looking forward to continuing the journey with all purchasers as they get set to start the exciting process of building their brand-new homes at Orchard Hills North.”

How Orchard Hills North is Tackling the Urban Heat Island Effect
At Orchard Hills North, we know the urban heat island effect – where built-up areas can trap heat and feel hotter than surrounding regions – is a genuine concern for many people. As our cities grow, it’s important to create communities that stay cooler, greener, and more liveable.

That’s why we’ve built climate-conscious design into the very foundations of Orchard Hills North.

A greener, cooler community
We’ll retain and enhance the natural creek line and bushland to create a lush, shaded “green spine” running through the neighbourhood. This not only cools the air but also provides a beautiful, natural space for walking, cycling, and relaxing.

Tree planting and landscaping
We’re planting thousands of trees and shrubs across the community, creating shaded streets, parks, and shared spaces. More tree canopy means less heat absorbed by roads and buildings and more pleasant outdoor areas for everyone.

Water-wise cooling
Our stormwater is directed into wetlands and reused for passive irrigation, helping to keep landscaping healthy without wasting water.

Biodiversity and habitat creation
The wetlands and green corridors aren’t just for people – they provide habitat for native birds, plants, and animals, enhancing local biodiversity while improving air quality.

Shaded active transport routes
We’ve designed kilometres of shaded walking and cycling paths to make it easy and comfortable to get around without the car.

Our goal is simple: to create a neighbourhood where residents can enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature, and feel comfortable year-round. By combining smart urban design, extensive planting, and water-sensitive landscaping, Orchard Hills North is doing its part to combat the urban heat island effect and build a cooler future.

Understanding Aircraft Noise and Our Location Near Western Sydney Airport

We know some people have questions about aircraft noise with the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport set to open in 2026. It’s an exciting development for our region, but it’s natural to want to understand what it might mean for day-to-day living.

Our location – 14km from the airport

OHN  is located around 14 kilometres from the airport site. Independent planning and environmental studies, including detailed noise modelling, have been completed as part of the airport’s approval process. These show that our location is outside the 20 ANEC (Australian Noise Exposure Concept) contour – the threshold used in Australia to identify areas most affected by airport noise. This means aircraft noise levels are not expected to be significant for our residents.

Building for comfort

We’re also committed to designing a community where people can truly relax at home. Modern building materials and construction techniques will help ensure your home stays quiet and comfortable, whatever is happening outside.

The airport’s benefits for our community

While it’s important to address noise concerns, it’s also worth recognising the many positives the airport will bring to the Western Sydney region:

  • More jobs closer to home: The airport and surrounding Aerotropolis precinct are set to create tens of thousands of jobs in aviation, logistics, technology, tourism and more.
  • Better transport connections: New motorway links and the Sydney Metro rail line will make it easier than ever to connect with other parts of Sydney and beyond.
  • Global access: Direct flights to destinations around Australia and the world will make both business and leisure travel more convenient.
  • Catalyst for investment: The airport is expected to attract new businesses, services and amenities to the region, improving lifestyle and boosting property values over time.

Our vision is to create a vibrant, well-connected community that benefits from the opportunities the airport will bring, while ensuring residents enjoy a peaceful and high-quality living environment.
